WONKA: THE SCANDAL THAT ROCKED BRITAIN [CH5]

Senior Producer–Director | Mentorn / Channel 5

A fast-turnaround documentary examining the extraordinary media frenzy surrounding the viral “Wonka Experience” event that became an international news story overnight.

The film explored how a children’s immersive experience in Glasgow descended into chaos, generating millions of views across social media and triggering a national conversation about online hype, public expectation and viral culture. Through contributor interviews, archive, social media footage and behind-the-scenes accounts, the documentary reconstructed the rapid rise and collapse of the event and the people caught at the centre of the controversy.

As Producer–Director, I helped shape the editorial approach to a story that was still rapidly evolving in the public eye, balancing humour and spectacle with the real experiences of families, performers and organisers involved. The production combined contemporary archive, user-generated content and contributor-led storytelling to capture how modern scandals now unfold simultaneously online and in the real world.

The documentary examined not just the event itself, but the wider cultural phenomenon that transformed a local attraction into a global viral story within days.
